DERBY SICILIA OLR

Pigeon Race 2024-2025 CALTANISSETTA

“DERBY SICILIA OLR” is the first dovecote established in Sicily, located in the heart of the island, on the outskirts of Caltanissetta.

The Columbodrome will be built of the best quality materials, with a capacity of approximately 2000 pigeons.

The flights will be made to the Italian peninsula, crossing the Strait of Messina and the volcano Etna.

The stations will be timed with the BENZING live system, a state-of-the-art system that allows the results to be displayed in real time.

The Columbodrome will have high-performance cameras that will allow you to watch both your training and arrivals at competitions online.

For those interested, I would like to present in a few sentences Sicily, the place that has hosted me for over 14 years.

Sicily is the largest island in Italy and the Mediterranean Sea. In triangular form, it is bathed north of the Tirenian Sea, south of the Sicilian Sea, east of the Ionian Sea and northeast of the Messina Strait which separates it from Calabria. In addition to the main island, the Aeolian Archipelagos, Egadi and Plelegia, the Islands of Ustica and Pantelleria are also part of the regional territory.

The territory is predominantly hilly and mountainous with the highest active volcano in Europe, the Etna volcano in catania province with an altitude of 3330 m, but the sea is one of the main attractions of the island. The northern, high and rocky coasts open to the Tirenian Sea with frequent and wide bays such as the bays Castellammare di Golfo, Palermo, Termini Imerese. To the east the Ionian coast is more varied; narrow pebble beaches almost up to Taormina; jagged to the south with bays and bays such as Naxos Gardens, lavive sour as at Acireale and rugged basalt cliffs in Catania. The southern coast - in front of Africa - is generally sandy and uniform in the central part of the region's largest bay, the Gulf of Gela, while it is more varied in the Ragusa area, in the Agrigento and Trapani area.

Sicily's climate is generally Mediterranean, with warm summers and mild and rainy winters, with very changing intermediate seasons. On the coasts especially in the southwest, the climate is most affected by African currents, so summers can be scorching. Sicily is seen as a warm island, also in winter but especially along the Coast of Tirenian and in the inner areas winters can be rigid and typical of the continental climate.

I look forward to all of you who want to test their pigeons on a rather difficult route where the air currents change direction quite often.

Sicily offers many tourist attractions: historical monuments, numerous beaches, oriental nature reserve, Aeolian islands, Mount Etna volcano, etc.
